Lost Marbles

Just one of many unique sections of the original "World's Longest Necklace"

In Honor of:

Debbie Howell

About this panel:

'Lost Marbles' is a lighthearted moniker for an otherwise not-so-funny mental impairment. Often we designate people as having lost their marbles, when in fact, they may be suffering from dementia or behave in an unorthodox way.

It is important to remember that those affected by mental/emotional disease do need our compassion as much as anyone suffering from physical shortcomings. Be patient, be gracious, be lenient.

Marbles found...

Why it's special

In this case, "Lost Marbles" is the name of an artist business. Most of the glass beads here were made by "Lost Marbles" artists Maria Richmond and Kay Rodgers. They were given to the Neverending Necklace by Maria (due to her wonderful heart) during 'The Down the Street Bead Show" in Pompano Beach, Florida.

These two talented bead makers from the west coast of Florida have developed their own unique style. And all the adorable and funky glass beads are individually made by hand.

Those whimsical dog-like beads are actually named "one-eyed greyhounds". Upon closer inspection, you will agree with that. Just click on any of the panel images for a larger view.

Maria and Kay's beads are accented by hand blown marble beads, that were donated by Susie Moncada.

How a panel is made >

Currently, we are working to make the future Love, Peace and Beads Museum a reality. It will be a place with marvelous exhibits from around the world, and of course the Neverending Necklace.

Until then, you may be able to get up close to the panels during select events. Or see all of them right here, online forever. To find out who dedicated the beads from this section and who they're dedicated to, go to the Love & Peace Journal, starting on page 59 >>

Beads are simple things. Their message is urgent: to make a necklace, beads can be arranged in any pattern, using any shape, color, size, age, origin and material. The finished necklace always comes out beautiful. Just as it ought to be with people in a functioning community.

The Neverending Necklace is the very core and spine of the Love & Peace Project. More so than any other symbol, it helps visualize love and compassion we have for others. Accepting and embracing all.
