No Guinnessฎ Book Record for the Love & Peace Project!

At times my friends call me a stubborn and ornery German woman. I think they're wrong. I just like to do things my own way and that's not that uncommon in people.

Anyhow. For a long time I had been pondering to discard the original idea of pursuing the piece of paper that certifies an entry into the Guinnessฎ Book.

Well, today I have made the decision not to apply the Neverending Necklace. Not that I don't enjoy what the Guinness people do for marketing: I love browsing their list of records and admire many record-breaking people who have achieved great feats.

But I also feel that it really takes away from the purpose and symbolism of the necklace. Sure, along with the official record comes a very short peak of media recognition, and it would help the Love & Peace Project become more popular, which certainly has its own benefits.

However, once that record-breaking hype is over, it seems like that was some sort of an end goal, a stand alone achievement. I'd like to guide that impression away from the Neverending Necklace.

By now, you must already know what the Neverending Necklace stands for: it is a string of never ending love, a symbol of non-violence and peace, a rope of encouragement and hope, a thread of unity.

And it continues. No matter how many people will string necklaces to pass its length. It is about the message, not the messenger.

A never ending string of love and peace going around the world!

Watch this

Video by Denise Fleischman, Production by the Wellington Town Crier

A snippet from last weekend's Gem Show - the Neverending Necklace on YouTube:

And guess why I've been smiling the entire time?

          ● most dedicated beads during one single event: 325

          ● longest section during one single event: 33' 6"

          ● record breaking total footage of the necklace (will confirm with Guinnessฎ)

We made it! Thanks to all of you who dedicated beads!

Another one for the record book!!!

The past weekend had you come out in masses to dedicate beads, and we never had as many dedications at one event before.

Thank you to all who helped break this record!

And while we're at it, word has it that we also unofficially broke the world record as recorded by the Guinness Book. We won't tell you quite yet, but by the coming weekend we will have the exact measure for length as well as the bead count. Come back and see what's new on Saturday, November 28.

So go ahead and enjoy your well-deserved turkey dinner and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Change Is Good.

No, I don't mean it in the political sense, especially since I vowed a long time ago to keep this site free of politics, at least largely and as best as I can without being complacent.

You may have noticed a couple of new additions and changes on this site. Of course I'd like you to rush to the gift shop and see what's new, but that is not even remotely the ulterior motive.

The two things I'd like you to be aware of:

1.) There are many new pages where you can post comments (most recently here >>>)

You should be leaving your footprint there, participate by adding meaningful links, quotes or anecdotes. An entire section is reserved for your input, and yes, we'll attach a link to your site to your signature.

2.) Payment for panel sponsorships go directly to charity. (Effective immediately)

Economic times are very difficult now, and they hurt the non-profit organizations even more. If you own a business and you'd like lifetime exposure, you should not hesitate to sponsor a panel, especially since your money is 100% tax deductible. More...

As you know, a website is a very organic entity, always growing and changing. It is no different here, while I'm trying to make it easier for you to use and, above all, beneficial for everybody - especially the charities in order to stay true to the original philosophy.

International Day of Peace

If you've followed the media, you probably are aware that Monday is International Day of Peace. The UN declared this day first in 1982 to bring the notion of world peace closer to public conscience and to provide hope for those regions currently at war.

That's a tough one, you say. You're right - peace does not come easy. And it does not come by being complacent. Peace is hard work.

On an international level there are many forces in place to negotiate peace. It doesn't always work, but those willing to try are bringing it closer than those who won't spend a thought on getting informed.

Don't leave it to diplomats, politicians or armed forces: you can do your share. Educate yourself. Learn how to keep an open mind and try to see issues from someone else's perspective. It's difficult because the "software" installed in us does not always allow flexibility or acceptance of different views.

But you can learn to be a better person by understanding how human behavior works. Patterns are established at a young age (just as you install your operating system right after you buy a computer). In the first decade of our lives we add many more "programs", all reinforced by our immediate social environment.

Unless we're willing to look at other "software" and "install new files or use open source", we can't comprehend an application from a different "PC". You can't open a PDF file without Adobe "Reader", you can't receive an email without an email program in place, and you can't play online games without installing their program.

It is just the same with a human being. Everybody has a combination of various "programs" that may not always be recognizable by your mind. Try to remember that when assessing another person's actions.

Train yourself to not judge and practice forgiveness. You'll find great peace!

Remembering Woodstock

Three more days folks, and the world will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock. I remember it vividly - or at least the media coverage and the talk about town.

No, I was not there. At the time I had not even reached my teenage years, leave alone the fact that I lived clear across the Atlantic, smack in the middle of Europe.

But the era it stood for and the spiritual connection that drove people to participate are painfully amiss today. Tell me if you feel differently, but what motivated people then has been lost in an avalanche of compliant comfort.

We sit on our couches and consume whatever we can, aware of world issues but happily leaving the work to "tree huggers", watching "Whale Wars" on TV while reassuringly admitting to ourselves that they're doing a great job.

I'm not asking anyone to go out and start a revolution, but I'd like you to recall that memory of great evolving new ideas. Recapture that anticipation. Granted, we live in different times and life itself may have become more complex.

But would it hurt you to become a little bit more open to the societal changes we're facing? Is it too difficult to emphasize? Slip into someone else's shoes for a few seconds?

If you want to celebrate Woodstock, then you must have tolerance. If you have tolerance, then you can accept differences. If you can accept differences, then you can forgive past mistakes, even your own.

If you've practiced forgiveness, you've learned not to judge. You've learned to love.

And you have found peace.

Love and peace to you always!

Where are we now, 40 years after the first moon landing?

Just another thing to reflect upon: when then-President Nixon telephoned Neil Armstrong after successfully setting mankind's first foot on the moon, he remarked that this event will unify people and bring the message of peace to the world.

What happened?

Today, we are no closer to peaceful cohabitation than we were back then. But wait - that statement may be deceiving. Much has happened since, and great minds of the world have rallied for more understanding among nations and tolerance towards people who do not share one's own lifestyles and/or views.

Could it be that humans are in a great state of change?

My personal guess is a positive answer to that question. And while we communicate as never before, while people are informed about injustices and senseless actions against human rights, and while we are aware through education - the process towards greater acceptance is still lengthy.

And perhaps we are hardwired to learn these things on a slow schedule. Maybe the DNA people could shed some light onto why intellectual adaptation does not come sooner.

How does that answer the above question?

With all the not-so-good things going on around the world, our glasses are still more than half full. There still is abundant love going around, and the common yearning for peace is going stronger than ever.

And never underestimate the power of hope.

Not Just Another Show

If you have followed the progress of the Neverending Necklace, then you may have noticed some changes that recently took effect. Take the dedications for example, and the fact that you now can add beads free of charge.

It was a decision that we had considered for quite some time, and after it was put into place, we can now say that it was definitely a good move.

Your response was extraordinary!

But to actually do a show with free dedications was a bit of a risk because we didn't want to change it drastically. However your feedback was great, and you have encouraged us once again during this past weekend to continue the Neverending Necklace without as much as a hesitation.

One thing has to be said about those who have supported us over the years: show promoters, vendors, artists and visitors who donated beads, and the thousands of you who dedicated beads and making them a meaningful addition to the necklace.

A great big "Thank You" to the Down The Street Bead Show - without your fantastic show the necklace would not be nearly the same. And what a show it was! We recommend to go and see it next time and we promise that you will become addicted. In a positive way.

The Power of Love

Have you spent much time on the internet lately? If so, then you certainly have noticed how many websites are popping up that let you interact with friends and long lost acquaintances.

It is simply amazing how connected we are through technology. But imagine, if we could actually see this enormous web of communication. If each and every connection we have to another human being were mapped out in a graph, you would be amazed how densely your paper was covered with lines.

No imagine how many of these lines would be there if we would substitute them with a graph showing how many people we are friends with, either on a day to day basis or within a social network. People who we like, people who we love. I dare you to say that would be pretty impressive.

And it would spin a web across the globe - invisible, but powerful because we'd be so much aware of it. The power of love for one another, reaching out as an offering for peace and goodwill.

The Neverending Necklace is one string of people who are being loved. And it is growing daily. Add more beads today.

How do you celebrate Memorial Day?

Growing up in Germany, stories from the war and its atrocities were as much part of daily life in my family as anything else. So in my developing consciousness, war was something to be avoided at all cost - something that nobody should be ever subjected to.

This mindset changed after a conversation with a high ranked German Army official produced a response from him that went like this: "Today we train our army how to not fight a war", meaning how to defuse conflict before it escalates.

That said, of course a country needs a good defense system. One that understands its job as to defend peaceful living within its borders. Let's keep it that way.

Thank you to all who fought for us so that we can have a life of freedom and peace!

The Silent Revolution

Something has been brewing around here. And if you were following the news about the Neverending Necklace, you may have noticed a dramatic change.

The $1.00 dedications you have accustomed to are no longer existing. Instead, all dedications are now FREE!!!
That certainly is great news for you and more work for us. But what about the charities? Was that not the sole purpose of the necklace to raise money for humanitarian causes?

YES!!! And it still is. In fact, we are now working closer with charities than ever, and a portion of all gift shop sales goes to help meet their financial goals.

This decision required a lot of soul searching, and in the end it was a choice influenced by personal circumstances. Again, all with the premises of giving a generous portion to the various established non-profit organizations.

But of course we need your help. You may dedicate beads to the greatest people in your life. Just remember the Neverending Necklace Gift Shop for the most thoughtful choices for a personal gift and recognition.

In return we'll promise to offer you even more and even better items, and we'll even customize them for larger groups. Check in with the Gift Shop now and get the most cherished present for a very dear person!

Easy ways to always remember the dearest people in your life

Of course, you say, how could I possibly forget my best friend? My most beloved teacher? My spouse?

You can't, because the memories of these people are forever etched deep into your heart. But do these individuals know that? Perhaps not enough, and perhaps not in the years to come. Daily life gets in the way of staying in touch with those wonderful friends and family, and all too often we find ourselves wondering if they know how much we care.

Here's an easy solution: dedicate a bead to them and send them a certificate of your dedication! That way they can look back years from now and know that you appreciate them. Add a tribute in "your pages", and it will make them feel special.

Greeting cards have a good chance of a short life span, but a bead dedication is permanent. So is an entry into "your pages", and most definitely the Certificate you're giving to them will be treasured.

We have them for any occasion! click here

We'll be adding retailers in your area and we'll update the list of stores frequently.

Creative Breaks for a Better Mouse Trap!

Surely you have heard about the eternal quest for the proverbial better mouse trap. Before you feel sorry for the mouse remember that it stands for an improvement of any gadget or situation.

And sometimes the best ideas come only after you have distanced yourself a bit from the subject. You have searched inward for improvement, but it really only occurs to you when you try to look from the outside in.

Exactly that is what has happened with the Neverending Necklace and its much needed but short lasting Sabbatical. The website has received a redesign to make it easier for you to find your way around, and we have eliminated a few items to streamline the look and "feel" of it.

We hope that you still can see how much a living object this necklace is. It is alive because you have helped build it and you keep adding to it to make it grow. And charities continue to benefit from its popularity.

It is truly a "living entity" of its own and it is very self improving.

You have made it so. Thank You for all your support!

Ladies' Night Out

Kiss of Indulgence - Ladies Night Out was an extremely successful event in Port Washington, Wisconsin. Due to an extraordinarily mild evening, about six hundred ladies came out and enjoyed all the offerings.

What a wonderful idea brought to life by Kathy Buck on behalf of the Port Washington Main Street, inc., a local Merchant's Association. A sea of pink scarves worn by the girls and clutching pink tote bags were the sure indicator of a tremendously well organized and equally well received evening of food, fun and all around indulgence.

The Port Washington Bank was Host to Panel 19 of the Neverending Necklace, and many of the ladies dedicated beads to friends and family.

As soon as we'll receive pictures from the event, you'll be able to go to the event page to learn more.
