Finally some good news

If recent events are an indicator for the year to unfold, then we surely can look forward to a bright future.

As I am staying away from politics to keep in line with offering a neutral platform for the Neverending Necklace, some more than noteworthy news headlines have reached all corners of the globe.

The most prominent being of course the "Miracle on the Hudson" and the heroics that it brought to the surface. Not only did Mr. Sullenberger (the pilot) accomplish an extraordinary feat by bringing down the plane safely - he also ensured that each and every passenger was able to get out from the sinking plane.

It is marvelous and simply breathtaking to see how - amid all our society's misdoings - there are individuals who commit themselves to the high standards we all so admire.

You see, mere training is surely not enough to keep a person going in the face of danger. It is the strong unfaltering attitude, the mindset of perfection that separates the true heroes from the rest. People are not born with that attitude - they work on it every day, reshaping their thoughts and affirmations until they're "just right".

I suspect that Mr. Sullenberger's performance will notch up superb behavior not only in aviation, but it will crawl deep into people's minds. And it will have an impact on society's conscientiousness as a whole to accept once again the idea of a positive role model.

Mr. Sullenberger you have sown the seed, you have paved the way for us all to reconsider our softened stance on commitment. You showed us all how to "put our heart where our mouth is". You are a true hero, and you let the gigantic humanitarian effort by countless brave rescuers be a successful one. May literature, movies and teachers spread your story for many years to come and inspire us to follow through with our promises.

Stumped for Words?

If you are busy like most people, chances are that you don't have an enormous amount of time to spend and think of enough caring, meaningful words to write to a special person in your life.

That's about to change. The new year brings a new Appreciation Certificate for you to use at any occasion. Not only will it make your life easier trying to express sincere goodwill, it will also put a big, warm smile on the faces of those who receive the Certificates.

There are many surprises for you in the works, and they will be revealed throughout the year. We can tell you this much though: you will want to give Certificates over and over again, to anybody and for any reason. And you'll never have to worry about the appropriate sentiment again.

Come back often for gifts that will leave them speechless with warm emotions!

Did the Year 2008 change anything for you?

And if so, what specifically has it done to impact your life? This is a very important question to ask, because you can make your resolutions only if you understand what they have to be in the first place.

And then understand that most resolutions fail and taper off after just a few weeks into the new year. Why is that you may ask, especially if you have made a stack of grand plans for yourself.

Answer: because resolutions are merely excuses to file away a chapter that should be needing more attention. If you resolve to lose weight, you'll most likely fail because in your mind that resolution is already a way to deal with it. The same is true with so many things: stop smoking, exercise more, give more to charity, help a friend or a relative in more ways, be successful in business, be nicer to your spouse and many, many more.

Instead, don't make any more great ambitious plans, but quietly and slowly change your habits.

It takes work to do that, but if you change your life just a little by introducing one small item from your list and follow through on a daily basis, you can expect miracles. Do it without great fanfare, and do it for yourself.

Remember: one small change per day until it has attached itself to your life. Then move on to the next.

Good luck with your "better" you, and warmest wishes for a fulfilled and Happy New Year!

How can YOU make peace?

Not that we are experts in matters of war and peace. Not that we ever believe that the Neverending Necklace will be unifying all people to live happily ever after. Not that we don't recognize the complexity of Society itself and the abrasions that we all have to take from various interactions.

But we can make it easier on ourselves.

How? By making the hardest choice for us that we've ever made. Forgiving. Forgiving whatever riles us about somebody, no matter how deeply we were hurt.

Yes, it is the most difficult thing to do except for one: forgiving ourselves. Nobody can do that overnight simply because it sounds like some spiritually guided advice. No, it is more than that, and it is much more difficult than that.

Forgiveness is healthy, and it opens communication with others. But it has to be learned in little baby steps - it takes practice and daily effort to willingly and sincerely and unconditionally forgive.

You will think about this if you're ready, and research will help you establish a new mind set. We are only here to remind you of the powerful peace bringing effects of forgiving.

But it's a start, and it is our greatest wish for you for a peaceful Holiday Season.

Happy Holidays to all of you!

Digging for Diamonds

You may have never had the chance to go searching for real gem diamonds, but certainly you have actually done it successfully many times during your life.

Not talking about the precious stones, the diamonds of life are much less tangible however much more valuable. Their names are slightly different too: they are called "knowledge", "friends", "compassion", "wisdom", "family", "faith", "hope", "love" and so forth. And just as the stones, they do not just lay around on the ground (mostly anyways), but you will have to dig for them.

Some are a bit easier to get while others present their own challenge in retrieving them. And very often, they are not even recognized as a diamond because they are, well, "rough".

That means that they have to be shaped and polished in order to present their maximum beauty and value. And in real life, you'll have to work hard to learn what hope really means, what friendship is, where to find love and how to achieve wisdom. The more effort you put into digging, the more diamonds you will collect. And the more work you spend on cutting and polishing them, the more valuable they become.

We are all thrown into a sand pit that is filled with an inexhaustible supply of these precious gems, all you have to do is dig until you find them. If you don't have a shovel, use your hands, and if you don't have polishing equipment or the knowledge, go to someone who has both.

Don't look at the sand pit as a desert - go find your own stones and fill your pouch of life. There are plenty gems for everybody!

What does an Aircraft Carrier have in common with the Neverending Necklace?

Answer: the length. Actually the necklace surpassed one by four feet as of today.

One question that pops up frequently: how much more do you have to string for the Guinnessฎ Book? Well, we look forward to submitting an application once we have 1 mile.

At the current rate that should happen by the end of 2009. Will you help the necklace get there?

Do you agree that we finally should become more mature as a global society? Wouldn't it be nice (and more productive) if we could learn to tolerate each other and abandon hate?

Do you believe in kindness? Then you should support the string that ties people from near or far together. Here's what to do:
